American Legion Riders Raise Money for Veteran's Homes
/The American Legion Riders of Post #58 in Smithville, along with The Best Little Hairhouse in Holt, are having a special fundraising event this Saturday, September 12, to raise money for veterans’ homes in Missouri. The homes are assisted living facilities located in Cameron, Warrensburg and Mount Vernon.
Registration starts at 10:00 am and the ride departs at 11:00 am on September 12
The event will be held at Leon’s Social Club, located at 255 Main Street in Holt. It will feature a DJ, karaoke, 50/50 drawing, silent auction and haircuts by donation by Cathy Worley of the Best Little Hairhouse. There will also be a benefit motorcycle ride to honor veterans.
“Our sole purpose is to support veterans that are living in veterans’ homes,” said American Legion Rider Bill Gagnon on 102.7FM’s Kearney Live. “These are people who have done a lot for this country in the military and now are either physically or mentally unable to care for themselves. Due to budget cuts and the rising expense of taking care of them, there are no morale support funds so we do fundraisers to donate to the three homes.”
Morale support funds go beyond the cost of caring for veterans. These funds are specific to the quality of life for the residents and were used for events such as picnics and special outings and professional sporting events.
Registration for the ride starts at 10:00 am at Leon’s and the ride departs at 11:00. Registration fee is $20.00. Activities are free, but donations are encouraged and all funds raised go to the veteran homes.
