Businesses Provide Thanksgiving Meals to Needy Families

The holidays can be especially hard on seniors who are alone. Recognizing a need in our community, several Kearney businesses have come together to make a generous offer. D’Creamery, Fat Boyz, Betty’s Place and Slivinski’s Bakery, with the help of donations from some Kearney residents, are providing 50 free thanksgiving meals to shut-ins and seniors in Kearney and Holt who have no family to be with on Thanksgiving.

Clay County Auditor Withholds Settlement Payments

On Monday, November 16, Clay County Auditor Victor Hurlbert announced that he is holding on to five purchase orders made out to pay the settlements of county employees who have resigned. The resignations include assistant county administrators Nicole Brown, Laurie Portwood and Brad Garrett, as well as Nikki Thorn and Melissa Mohler. The payouts total more than $350,000.

Health Department Updates Emergency Order

On Tuesday, November 17, Director of the Clay County Public Health Center Gary Zaborac updated the emergency order from August 24. In order to provide consistency in the metro and join regional efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the updates are in line with orders announced earlier this week by the city of Kansas City, Missouri and Jackson and Wyandotte counties.
