Kearney Library Closed Due to Coronavirus Exposure

Mid-Continent Public Library’s Kearney Branch, located at 100 S. Platte-Clay Way, will be closed until further notice due to potential COVID-19 exposure. The branch was immediately closed when a staff member tested positive for the virus on October 27. The Library is notifying customers who were in the branch on Saturday, October 24.

“All Library staff who were potentially exposed will be screened and closely monitored before returning to work,” said Community Relations Specialist Emily Becker. “Professional deep cleaning services will take place during the closure. The book drop will remain open, and hold times will be extended so that materials will be available when the branch reopens.”

The health and safety of staff and customers is MCPL’s highest priority so the Library is working closely with the Clay County Health Department to determine all necessary and additional next steps. An announcement will be made when a reopening date is determined.

On Thursday, October 29, the Library announced that they will resume curbside service on Friday, October 30. In-branch services, including access to public computers, printers, and copiers, will begin at 9:00 a.m., on Monday, November 2.

All Library staff who were potentially exposed to COVID-19 have been screened before returning to work. Professional deep cleaning has taken place during the closure. Holds on materials that were available at the branch before its closure have been extended.

Becker noted that the Library will be open on Tuesday, November 3 as a polling place for Kearney residents. Voters should check their voter registration cards for locations.
