Cottonwood Creek Thieves Captured in Kansas City
/On Tuesday, October 6, at about 2:50am, Kearney Police officers responded to a call of “car prowlers” in the Cottonwood Creek subdivision. A short time later, the suspects were located in the neighboring Hills of Westwood subdivision attempting to get in more vehicles on Crestridge.
“When officers located the suspects and attempted to stop them, they fled the scene,” said Lt. Stewart of the Kearney Police Department.
Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to locate the vehicle some time later at 112th Street and Plattsburg Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Corporal Jon Bazzano of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office stated, “The Claycomo Police Department also assisted in the pursuit by deploying stop sticks to disable the vehicle.”
The suspect vehicle came to a stop at I-35 and Vivion Rd. in Kansas City where deputies were able to arrest an adult male and female. According to Deputies, items in the suspect’s vehicle were recovered and the couple are in custody under a 24 hour investigative hold.
Kearney Police Officers are asking residents if they were a victim in this crime, to contact the police department with a list of items that were stolen with descriptions and approximate values.
Lt. Stewart reminds the community to keep their possessions secure overnight. “We remind residents not to keep valuables in their cars, and keep their cars locked. Better yet, put them in a garage and make sure the garage door is locked,” he stated.
