Kearney Allocates Remaining CARES Funds to School District and Public Safety
/The Kearney Board of Alderman unanimously voted to provide remaining CARES Act funds to the Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District, Kearney School District and to reimburse the city for Public Safety salaries.
The City approved $8,500 for additional computers for the school district. This grant is in addition to the allocation of $300,000 made
in September. These additional monies will go to purchasing laptops for every teacher in the district.
The City will grant the Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District $100,000 to be used specifically for expenses due to the coronavirus
pandemic. The Fire and Rescue District submitted a list of expenses that included PPE and sanitation, COVID testing, devices for meetings, mattress protectors, overtime and station security.
The city will also allocate $291,086 to be used for police department salaries. In addition to these grants, the City of Kearney also will also upgrade the HVAC systems at City Hall and the Police Station.
The Clay County Commission approved the total allocation of $964,586 of CARES Act funds to Kearney for eligible expenditures due to the coronavirus pandemic between March 1 and December 30, 2020. With these last resolutions, Kearney has used up the grant funds.
