Jason Withington Announces Commissioner Run in 2022
/Residents in Clay County are looking forward to change in county government leading into 2021 as newly elected Commissioners, Sheriff, and other positions will be beginning their respective terms. Citizens are already looking further down the road toward filling the seats of an expanded 7-member County Commission under the newly adopted Clay County Constitution.
Being the first to throw his hat into the ring, community activist Jason Withington announced his intention to run for one of the two newly created At-Large seats on the Clay County Commission in 2022.
Withington, who made the announcement via social media on Saturday, December 6, has already received several responses of support.
“There’s only so much you can do from the outside,” he said in his announcement. “I’m officially announcing my intent to run for County Commissioner in 2022. Let’s continue working together for #ABetterClayCounty.”
Withington is one of Clay County’s most outspoken residents. He has been instrumental in establishing safe routes to schools by expanding National Walk to School Day in Clay County, and was a key leader in gathering community support and signatures for a state audit of Clay County. He has also had a critical influence in bringing change of government to Clay County while working toward a new county constitution, a measure which was overwhelmingly passed by voters in November.
Withington states that he will make public safety a top priority if he is elected, and will also work to rebuild county infrastructure and raise quality of life for citizens. He would like to work on delivering internet access to rural Clay County and open up riverfront areas for recreational use.
Withington is a lifelong Clay County resident. He graduated from Winnetonka High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Park University.
