Kearney Enrichment Council Combines Movies and Donations
/Every Summer, the Kearney Enrichment Council and the Downtown Kearney Project has featured Movies in the Park events at Lion’s Park. These events have provided plenty of food and fun activities, such as Dunk a Cop, bounce houses, and t-shirt giveaways.
This year, the Kearney Enrichment Council had to rethink the Movies in the Park events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now they are reinventing the event by bringing back the drive-in theater experience at Jesse James Park. For their July 25th feature movie, Space Jam, the Kearney Enrichment Council is attaching a Christmas in July theme to the event to support the Kearney Family Foundation.
The Kearney Family Foundation’s primary operation delivers food, clothing and holiday gifts to families which have been identified by schools and other local organizations to be in need during the holiday season. However, the Foundation had a setback this year. Not only has the Foundation been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, but on May 18th, their trailer of supplies was stolen.
The Kearney Enrichment Council wants to do something special by asking for donations for the Kearney Family Foundation at the Christmas in July drive-in. Items accepted include bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, liquid dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
The Christmas in July drive-in movie will be July 25th at Jesse James Park. The event starts at 7:30pm and Space Jam starts at dusk. For more information contact the Kearney Enrichment Council at 816-635- 0566.
