Platte-Clay Electric Membership Election Amid COVID-19
/Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative elections are typically held at an annual meeting, but this year a new system has been established due to restrictions on mass gatherings and concerns about COVID-19.
Between August 1st and August 31st, PCEC members will be able to vote either online or by mail-in ballot. Online ballots can be accessed on www.PCEC.coop/vote starting August 1st and the same website can be used to request a mail-in ballot. Members may also call 816-490-6614 to request a mail-in ballot by phone.
“We felt it was in the best interest of our members to ensure they could still have their voices heard on issues that impact the co-op despite restrictions making it impossible to hold a traditional annual meeting,” said Dave Deihl, CEO and General Manager of Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative. “This decision empowers our consumer-members with continued local control of their electric provider, which we feel is a core advantage of the cooperative business model.”
On the ballot in this year’s co-op election are candidates for the Board of Directors and two by-law amendments aimed at making the organization operate more efficiently. Directors serve three-year terms and one director position for each of the cooperative’s three districts (west, north and south) is on the ballot annually.
Votes in the election will be tallied by a third party election vendor who will certify the election after the voting window has closed at the end of August. Results will be announced on Tuesday, September 15th.
Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative (PCEC) serves more than 24,000 accounts and nearly 3,000 miles of energized line in Buchanan, Caldwell, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb, Platte, and Ray Counties, just north of metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri. PCEC was established in 1938 as part of the Rural Electrification Act, and today PCEC is among the fastest-growing cooperatives in the state of Missouri.
