KSD - Road Trip to HOMEcoming

Homecoming week for the Kearney School District is September 28-October 2. Each year, Kearney Homecoming gives the community the opportunity to celebrate Bulldog pride. This year, the experiences may be different, but in true Bulldog fashion the district, families and community will use creativity to show our incredible Bulldog spirit.

Unfortunately, some traditional events have been canceled due to the pandemic. The Homecoming parade, dance and KHS Powderpuff game will not occur this week.

Depsite these changes, the district stated, “KSD staff members have been hard at work to create a spirited week. We have teamed up with the Kearney Chamber of Commerce and are encouraging businesses and the entire community to participate in our Spirit Days.”

This year's Homecoming theme is "Road Trip to HOMEcoming." Each spirit day this week correlates with a state or area on a map that leads back to Kearney and culminates Friday, Oct. 2, with the Homecoming game, pep assembly video and coronation of the king and queen before and during the football game.

Themed days are:

• Monday — Made in the USA, where USA themed clothing is worn

• Tuesday — Texas, where western wear is worn

• Wednesday — Cozy Colorado, where sweats are worn

• Thursday — Hi from Hawaii, where Hawaiian shirts and the like are worn

• Friday — Welcome Home, where Bulldog attire is worn.

Businesses, and those who work in them, are encouraged to dress in accordance with spirit days. They are also requested to decorate windows or offices and take Homecoming pictures of their efforts and post them to social media using #BeKearney. For each homecoming post using the hashtag, the person or business will be entered into a drawing to win $50 in Chamber Cash, which can be used like cash at Kearney businesses.

Homecoming events culminate with the Friday night football game when the Kearney Bulldogs face off against the Winnetonka Griffins. Attendance to the game will be limited as event participants will only be allowed 2 guests. The pregame show begins at 6:40 and the game starts at 7:00pm on 102.7FM - KPGZ, online at 1027kearneymo.com or on the My Tuner Radio App.
