Kearney Election Candidates Finalized
/The filing window has closed for candidates running for the Kearney Board of Alderman and school board in April. Voters who return to the polls will see a mix of incumbents and new challengers.
There are two seats open on the Kearney School District board, and two individuals filed for the positions – incumbents Susan Woehrman and Darlene Bailey.
For Kearney Board of Alderman, in Ward 1, Kathy Barger is running to keep her seat on the board. She will face challengers Gabriel Coffelt and Jason Pierret.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to run for re-election to represent the citizens of Ward 1,” Barger said. “This past year, in particular, has been a challenge but the city, our citizens, and our local charitable organizations rose to the occasion - just like we always do. It was amazing to witness.”
Pierrett announced his candidacy by saying, “As a resident and business operator in Kearney, I’m aware we face many challenges as we grow and what our government does to address that is vital to our success. I am running with a long term vision for the community and to give the people a voice.”
Incumbent Dan Holt is running unopposed for the Ward 2 Alderman position. Also on the ballot is the proposal of a use tax to fund needed infrastructure projects to such as storm water repair and improvements.
Election Day for this ballot issue and candidates is April 6, 2021.
