Bulldogs Struggle in 61-40 Raytown South Loss

Kearney has been unable to beat Raytown South since the 2016-17 season. That trend continued last night as the Cardinals took an early lead and didn’t let up until the final buzzer, securing a 61-40 victory over the Bulldogs.

Raytown South graduated 2 of their top players last year and reloaded this season. The Cardinals started 2 freshmen as they took a 12-10 first quarter lead, increasing it to 24-14 at halftime.

Brennan Watkins was frustrated by the Cardinals’ stout defense as he was held to only 2 points in the first half. He got on track in the third quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers, and a chance to cut the lead to 5 with a driving shot from the lane that recoiled off the rim for another Ray South possession. Watkins finished with 13 total points in a game in which Raytown South found an answer to the Bulldogs’ offensive and defensive adjustments at every turn.

Other Bulldog point totals were Tyler Carr with 12, and Ashton Holloway with 8.

Dawson Meinert returned to the Bulldog lineup following a lengthy absence with a high ankle sprain. His drive and dish plays, and 4 points added to the Bulldog score. Braxton Breedlove finished the night with 2 points, and Senior, Drew Gentry had 1 point from the line.
