Bulldog Sports Recap
/Bulldog basketball and wrestling teams are back on the courts and mats this week. Here is a KPGZ Bulldog Sports recap:
Girls Basketball
The varsity girls basketball team fell to Liberty North in the opening round of the Liberty North Tournament on Monday, December 6, 54-11. Kenzi Kutch led the team in scoring with 6 and Gracie Bomar was the leading rebounder with 6. The loss brings the varsity's record to 0-2.
On Wednesday the team lost to St. Pius in the 2nd round of the Liberty North Tournament 50-12. Bri Reynolds was the leading scorer with 5 points and Gracie Bomar led in rebounds with 5.
The varsity will play against Basehor Linwood on Friday at 4:00 in the Liberty North Tournament 7th place game.
Girls Wrestling
The girls varsity team hosted conference opponents Ruskin and Winnetonka Tuesday night. The girls dominated both shorthanded teams. Hailey Romero led the way with two pins on the night for the Bulldogs.

The Varsity is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference.
On Wednesday, December 8, the girls wrestling team traveled to Fort Osage High School to compete in the Battle of the Braids Girls Scramble. A lot of wrestlers got their first taste of a live wrestling match.
Newcomers, Elise Arellano, Evelyn Brungardt, Hannah Pendzimas, Makaely Routh, and Alice Parker all registered their first varsity wins as Bulldogs. Hailey Romero continued her dominance going 3-0 on the night with three pins.
Boys Wrestling
The boys varsity wrestling team hosted conference opponents Ruskin and Winnetonka Tuesday night. The Bulldogs took an early lead in both duals and never looked back picking up an impressive 16 falls on the night.
Kearney vs. Ruskin 82-0
Kearney vs. Winnetonka 72-6
The varsity is now 7-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Boys Basketball
On Wednesday, December 1, the varsity boys basketball team played in the semifinals of the Savannah Tournament vs a tough St. Joe Benton team. The Bulldogs got down early and could never recover from their slow start and lost the game 51-35. Ashton Holloway led all scorers with 19 points. Braxton Breedlove added 7 points.
On Saturday, December 4, the team played in the 3rd place game of the Savannah Tournament vs Maryville. The Bulldogs struggled to score while the Spoofhounds came out and hit ten 3 pointers. The Bulldogs fought their way back in the 4th Quarter but ended up losing the game 48-43. Ashton Holloway led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points. Manny Linthacum hit 3 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. The Bulldogs are now 1-3 on the season.
