Mayor Presents Steiner with Key to the City
/Former Kearney Alderman Marie Steiner was recognized at the Board of Aldermen meeting on May 17, for her outstanding public service to the city of Kearney and the Kansas City area.
Marie Steiner has filled many rolls and has completed many projects in her public service career. She served on the City Recycling Committee in 2011 and was responsible for successfully gaining voter approval for curbside recycling that was implemented in July, 2012.
She was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission by Bill Dane in November, 2013 and was then elected to Ward 2 Alderman in 2014, and served three terms.
Steiner was also appointed to represent the City of Kearney on the Mid America Regional Council Solid Waste Management Board, a position she has served for the past six years, and is currently serving as President.
“On behalf of the City, we congratulate you on your long and successful marriage, and your outstanding public service,” said Mayor Randy Pogue. “Thank you, Marie for representing Kearney at Missouri Municipal meetings, numerous meetings of the Clay County EDC, at our local Chamber of Commerce meetings, and as President of the MARC Solid Waste Management District. You set a standard for successive members to follow that we very much appreciate.”
Some of the many projects and organizations she worked on include:
Committee Chair of the Communities for All Ages Program – securing a Gold level Status for the City
Supported restoration of the 103 East Washington property to expand the Kearney Historic Museum
Helped secure grants for the electronics recycling container
Helped secure two grants for recycling informational campaigns to raise awareness and improve understanding of the City’s curbside recycling program
Participated in securing grant funding and financing for the 92 Highway Sidewalk project
Supported and participated in securing grant funding and financing for the Clear Creek pedestrian bridge project, as well as many other city projects
Steiner was commended by Mayor Pogue and Board of Aldermen for her outstanding achievements and her commitment as an excellent public servant. She received a framed copy of the commendation and a Key to the City of Kearney.
