Track and Field Athletes Excel at State

Kearney track and field athletes finished their season with outstanding results on Friday, May 28 at the Class 4 State Championship.

Both boys and girls teams made exemplary showings at the state meet in Jefferson City. The boys team took second place overall, and runners Kyler Chappell, Kyle Hofer, Joseph Marshall and Jake Gregory earned State Champion standing in the 4×400 meter relay. Several boys earned personal best results including Luke Noland who broke the school record in 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.74.

The girls team also deserves high praise finishing in ninth place, and all seven athletes earned All-State recognitions. Jadyn Barnes, Liela Murphy, Shelby Singleton and Morgan Wood earned third place in the 4×400 meter relay.

Boys All-State Track and Field Athletes

  • Luke Noland – 2nd long jump (7.01 meters), 2nd 110m hurdles (14.74 school record)

  • Logan Arellano – 2nd 400m (50.10)

  • K.J. Smith – 2nd discus (51.94 meters)

  • Zachary Grace – 5th discus (48.77 meters)

  • Kyle Hofer – 7th 400m (51.77)

  • Luke Noland, Will Dolinar, Brock Colhour, Joe Marshall – 6th 4x200m relay (1:32.66)

  • Logan Arellano, Joe Marshall, Kyler Chappell, Kyle Hofer – State Champion 4x400m relay (3:29.18)

  • Logan Arellano, Carter Woods, Kyler Chappell, Kyle Hofer – 3rd 4x800m relay (8:16.31)

Girls All-State Track and Field Athletes

  • Braelyn Rivera – 5th discus (36.55 meters) and 8th shot put (10.51 meters)

  • Ava Lawless – 3rd triple jump (11.07 meters)

  • Morgan Wood – 6th 300m hurdles (47.70)

  • Abby Stamper, Morgan Wood, Ava Lawless and Jadyn Barnes – 4th 4x200m relay (1:47.13)

  • Jadyn Barnes, Liela Murphy, Shelby Singleton and Morgan Wood – 3rd 4x400m relay (4:10.36)

  • Barnes, Jillian Vaughn, Abby Smith, Wood and Murphy – 4th 4x800m relay (9:50.83)
