Shelter Rental Fees at Lion’s Park Announced

Parks and Recreation Department Director Eric Marshall announced shelter reservation fees for the new picnic areas in Lion’s Park. The announcement was made at the Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday, June 7. The Park Board approved the fee schedule and hours that shelters can be reserved at their May meeting.

City residents can reserve shelters in three-hour blocks for $100. The fee for non-residents is $150 for three hours. To correspond with posted park hours of operations, the Park Board outlined the reservation blocks as 10 am – 1 pm; 1:30 – 4:30 pm; 5 – 8 pm.

The Park Board also set the fee schedule and hours for reserving the cabanas around the splashpad as well as the band shell. Residents can reserve a cabana or the band shell for $50 for a three hour block. The non-resident fee is $75. The time blocks for reservations are the same as the picnic shelters.

The half hour breaks between reservation blocks are designated for parks staff to clean shelter areas, empty trash cans, and check and clean bath rooms.

The shelters, cabanas and band shell do not need to be reserved to use those facilities; however a party with a reservation will have priority to use the space.

The Parks and Recreation Department is now taking reservations for shelters, cabanas and the band shell at 816-903-4724 or 816-903- 4730.
