Police Charge Splashpad Vandalism Suspects

The Kearney Police Department released a statement naming one individual in the Lion’s Park Splashpad vandalism case on Friday, July 16.

Tommy L. Smith, 18, from Olathe, Kansas has been charged in the Kearney Municipal Court with conspiracy to commit property damage, trespassing in the first degree, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A 14-year-old Kearney male is also being referred to the Clay County Juvenile Office as a result of this investigation.

The splashpad, bathrooms, signs and other park property, were vandalized with spray paint just after midnight on July 3, just two weeks after the grand opening of the park.

The Kearney Police Department thanks everyone who assisted in the investigation of this crime.
