Motorcyclist Crashes After Fleeing Deputies
/Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies captured a man who fled from a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Monday, July 19. He was arrested after he crashed his motorcycle just south of Kearney.
At about 1:40 am on Monday, a man driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle drove past a deputy in excess of 90 mph on U.S. 69 Highway at Missouri B Highway. The man drove north on 33 Highway as the deputy alerted other officers of the situation.
The deputy lost sight of the motorcycle near NE 130th Street and Missouri 33 Highway, just south of Kearney.
Deputies continued to search the area, and they eventually saw the handlebars of the motorcycle in the ditch at NE 130th Street and Missouri 33 Highway. The motorcycle was wrecked, however the driver could not be found at the scene.
About the same time as the search was taking place, a black truck was driving away from the area. Kearney Police Officers assisted deputies by stopping the truck. Deputies determined that the man inside with torn jeans and muddy clothes was the driver of the wrecked motorcycle.
The man was arrested for fleeing law enforcement and careless driving. He only had minor scrapes from the crash, and was not licensed to drive a motorcycle.
