A high-speed pursuit from Clinton County ended in Kearney on Tuesday night. Kearney Police assisted Clinton County Deputies, and captured one suspect and recovered a weapon.

On Tuesday, July 27, a Clinton County deputy observed a vehicle traveling north on I-35 in excess of 102 miles per hour. The deputy was able to stop vehicle, but the driver drove away during the stop. The pursuit continued as far as Cameron where the suspect vehicle turned around and drove south on I-35.

When the pursuit entered Clay County, deputies used spike strips in attempt to stop the suspect vehicle. The disabled vehicle continued into Kearney where it crashed on a dead end street. When the vehicle stopped the three occupants fled the scene.

Kearney Police Sergeant JD Garton and K-9 Krash assisted deputies, and they found one of the passengers and a handgun next to a hay bale in a field north of 92 Highway.

The passenger was identified as D’ante Draper of Kansas City. Draper faces charges of fleeing/resisting while creating a substantial risk and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Draper also has a Clay County warrant for tampering with a motor vehicle, and the U.S. Marshal’s office has a warrant for Draper’s arrest for a weapons offense, and a probation violation – drug user in possession of a firearm.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified but not apprehended yet. The other passenger in the vehicle also eluded deputies.
