Reward for Information on Splashpad Vandal Increases

The Kearney community is looking for action in the splashpad vandalism case. The crime is the talk of the town in conversations and on social media posts, as well as in the business community where businesses have started a reward fund.

Two weeks after the grand opening of the newly refurbished Lion’s Memorial Park project, it has already been defaced. An individual or individuals spray painted the splashpad, bathrooms, signs and other park property just after midnight on July 3.

Mayor Randy Pogue posted numerous pictures of the vandalism on his Facebook page and the news spread from there. People in Kearney are outraged that someone would vandalize a brand new play area for kids.

The Kearney Police Department posted a video still of the suspect on Saturday, and two local businesses offered a reward of $1,500. Since that time another business and three individuals have contributed to the reward fund.

The current reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the vandalism at Lions Park is now $2,500.

If anyone has information in regards to this case please call Sgt. McEntire at the Kearney Police Department at 816-903-4750 or 816-407-3700.
