Bulldog Weekly Sports Recap
/Kearney Bulldog athletes kept scoring goals, runs, and crossing finish lines at competitions this week. Here is a KPGZ Bulldog Sports recap:
Softball
On Tuesday, September 28, the Bulldogs hosted the Raytown South Cardinals for a conference JV and Varsity game. Both JV and Varsity were victorious. JV won 12-0 and Varsity won 17-0. On Wednesday, both teams travelled to Smithville to take on the Warriors. Both JV and Varsity ended up losing close games to the Warriors. JV lost 6-4 and Varsity lost 15-13. Kailey Rose went 3-5, Elysia Hand went 3-4 with a home run, Mackenzie Herndon went 3-4 with 4 RBI's, Sela Lowrance went 2-3, Elise Arellano and Rory Perry went 1-4. The girls were down six runs in the top of the 7th and were able to score four runs but it wasn't enough.
Boys Soccer
The Bulldogs played the Falcons from Staley HS on Tuesday, and came up short in both the varsity and JV games. Both games were 3-1 losses for the Bulldogs. Nick Turley scored in the JV game, and Julius Green had the goal for the varsity. The Bulldogs are 4-6 on the year.
JV Football
On Monday, September 27, the JV football team traveled to Grain Valley to take on the Eagles. The team won 21-14, and all three phases of the game came up with big plays when needed during the game. This brings their record to 2-1 on the season. Daniel Stansbury, Canton Woods and Evan Janiak all had a rushing TD. Alex Schmid converted all three extra points.
Boys Swimming
The Boys Swim Team traveled to the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Saturday, September 25, to compete in the COMO 2021 Invitational. The Bulldogs had 14 personal bests as well as 6 top 16 finishes. The team placed 18th out of 31 teams with a score of 37.50 points. This was one of the biggest and fastest meets during their season. This meet also challenged the boys mentally and physically with having both prelims and finals on the same day with only a short break in between.
Cross Country
The Bulldog Cross Country teams ran this last Saturday at Gans Creek. The girls placed 3rd out of 31 schools. The boys placed 31st out of 38 schools. Medalists were Alex Kinstler with 7th place and Abby Elam 12th place.
