Pedestrian Killed on I-35

A Liberty woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to  cross Interstate 35 on Thursday night.

Just after 10 pm on January 13, a Clay County deputy traveling southbound on I-35 came upon a crash at 69 Highway. The driver, Ashley Tieu, 36, of West Des Moines, Iowa, had stopped her 2014 GMC Acadia because she was unsure of what she had hit. 

The deputy searched the area and located the body of 38-year-old Bernice Rodriguez of Liberty, Missouri in the median. He contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Liberty Police and Fire departments.

The Highway Patrol’s investigation concluded that Rodriguez was a pedestrian who attempted to cross the highway and stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicle. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene by Liberty Fire at 10:25 pm.
