Kearney Swimmers Finish Second at Belton
/The Kearney Girls Swim and Dive team traveled to Belton to compete in the Pirate Invitational this weekend and brought home a 2nd place win. The invitational featured 16 local high school teams.
Belton finished in the top slot with 460 points, Kearney finished with 317 points, and Winnetonka came in 3rd with 219 points.
The team made big improvements to their state consideration times in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay, along with having a few more state consideration times made. The team swam great and is excited to be going into post season championship meets the next couple of weeks.
Here are some of the team’s highlights at the meet:
Tori Tarr won both the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke. She also broke her own meet record in the butterfly with a time of 1:00.82.
Claire Woehrman placed 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle and 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle. She had best times in both and made the state cut in the 100 yard freestyle.
Ruby Dunn placed 5th in the 200 yard freestyle and 3rd in the 500 yard freestyle.
Claire Woehrman, Macy James, Tori Tarr, and Ruby Dunn placed 2nd in a really close 200 Medley.
Hailey Thorpe placing 7th in Diving and 10th in 100 backstroke.
Flannery Simmons placing 8th in Diving.
Sam Singleton place 9th in Diving.
Paula Robledo going a best time in the 100 freestyle and making her first finals.
Bee Perkins went best times in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Kendra Seeley placing 8th in 100 backstroke with her best time.
Amelia Byers, Elizabeth Demers, Macy James, and Jillian Bonderer placed 4th in the 400 Free Relay.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, January 28, at the Junior Varsity Conference, held at Gladstone Community Center. The Varsity Conference takes place February 4-5 at Gladstone as well.
