Kearney Youth Recreation Leagues Now Open
/The New Year just began, but in the world of kid’s recreational sports it’s never too early to start planning. The Kearney Parks and Recreation Department opened the registration window for spring sports leagues this week. These programs emphasize safe, fun, and instructional recreation.
Youth Soccer
Kearney Parks and Recreation is offering a Recreation Youth Soccer League. This league is designed to get kids 4 – 12 years old familiarized and involved in soccer through fun and engaging activities and games. This league is a great way for kids to develop motor and social skills all while having a blast.
Leagues will have 1 – 2 practices per week. Six games will be played on Saturdays starting April 30.
T-Ball
Kearney Parks and Recreation T-Ball League is designed for boys and girls aged 4 – 6. The program is a great tool to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness and encourage social interaction. The coed program emphasizes safe, fun, participation and teamwork. Participants are guaranteed playing time in the field and at bat.
Leagues will have 1 – 2 practices per week. Six games will be played on Saturdays starting April 30. Kearney Parks and Recreation will provide participants with a jersey and hat. Parents are responsible for shoes, pants and mitts. It is strongly recommended each child provide their own batting helmet.
Youth Baseball
Youth Recreation Baseball League is designed for boys aged 7 – 14. This program emphasizes safe, fun, and instructional recreation. Participants will learn skills of the game through teamwork and guaranteed playing time in the field and at bat.
The location of games for each division will be based on the number of teams that make up the division. The Recreation Department has teamed with Smithville Parks and Recreation to provide the best possible experience for kids. Some divisions may have to travel to Smithville for games only.
Jersey and hat are provided by Kearney Parks and Recreation. Parents need to provide shoes/cleats, pants and mitt. It is recommended that each child provide their own helmet.
