Sheriff’s Office Assisting in Haslett Case
/The Clay County Investigative Squad has been activated to assist the Excelsior Springs Police Department with the Timothy M. Haslett, Jr. case. Haslett was arrested and accused on October 7, of kidnapping and raping a woman.
According to the victim’s statement, Haslett kept her in his basement since September at a residence in the 300 block of Old Orchard Street. The victim was able to escape and ran to neighbors for help. The victim was wearing a trash bag, metal collar with a padlock and had duct tape around her neck on the day she escaped.
After Haslett was arrested rumors circulated of other women who were being held against their will by Haslett, but investigators have not found evidence to corroborate those rumors.
“We have checked with law enforcement agencies in the Kansas City metropolitan area and there are no current missing persons reports that correspond with the evidence examined so far in this investigation,” stated a press release from Excelsior Springs Police.
Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with information in this case to call the Excelsior Springs Police Department at 816-629-7108, or the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS, or go to CrimeStoppers.com.
Haslett remains in the Clay County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. He has been assigned a public defender and has a bond reduction hearing scheduled for October 18.
