Kindergarten Enrollment Open for 2022-2023 School Year

The Kearney School District is ready to welcome the Class of 2035.

Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year launches on Tuesday, Feb. 1. This is the opportunity for parents/guardians to enroll children who will be age five on or before July 31, 2022.

Parents/Guardians can enroll their child by clicking on the Kindergarten Enrollment link provided below. At the end of the enrollment process, families can schedule a kindergarten screening appointment.

Once they have registered their child for kindergarten, parents/guardians will then schedule a kindergarten screening. The kindergarten screening tells us what a child already knows before classes start in the fall. Our goal is to provide valuable support for parents/guardians as they help their children prepare to enter kindergarten. This screening will serve as an important resource to help families know what essential skills to work on during the spring and summer. This preparation will help incoming kindergarteners hit the ground running from day one when school starts.

Parents/guardians and their children will meet with one of our Parents As Teachers Parent Educators as part of this kindergarten screening process. These screenings can be done in-person or virtually. The Parent Educator's role is to give parents/guardians ideas and tools to help with any areas of concern. It is important to know that there is not a score the child must achieve in order to go to kindergarten. The screening ensures that we are best prepared to provide the educational experiences every child needs to thrive.

The Parent Educator will also walk parents/guardians through what the transition to school looks like and help ease concerns they may have as well as answer questions. They may also call their child’s school with additional questions.

Each elementary school will be hosting a kindergarten orientation before the first day of school this fall. Orientation is an opportunity for families to receive helpful information about KSD, tour their school and meet their child’s teachers and building principal. We will provide more details as they are finalized.
