Bulldogs Finish Regular Season with Wins
/Both varsity basketball teams ended their regular seasons with wins this week. Seniors from both squads had stand-out performances and were recognized for their season-long contributions during halftime ceremonies.
Varsity Boys
The varsity boys finished their regular season with a 54-38 victory over the Raytown South Cardinals on Tuesday night.
After a slow, first-quarter start, the Bulldog offense heated up with consecutive 3-point shots by Braxton Breedlove, Braxton Page, and Manny Linthacum to take the lead. In the second quarter, Ashton Holloway extended the lead with an individual 7-point run.
Kearney recognized Ashton Holloway, Braxton Breedlove and Isaac Bates during Senior Night ceremonies at halftime. Ashton Holloway led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Manny Linthacum scored 9 points and had 7 assists.
Kearney’s defense helped retain a double-digit lead throughout the second half. The boys finish 4-8 in conference and 8-17 overall. The Bulldogs take a 3-game win streak into district play Saturday versus Smithville at Smithville at 4:00 pm.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season on Wednesday with a win over Ruskin, 58-27.
Jadyn Barnes led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points. Ryleigh Van Emmerik finished with 12 points, making 2 out of 3 from three point range and 4 out of 4 from the free throw line. JoJo Kutch had her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Macy Hughes chipped in 9 points and Kenzi Kutch had a season high 8 assists.
Seniors Macy Hughes and Kenzi Kutch were recognized at halftime for their outstanding contributions to the Kearney Girls Basketball program.
The win brings the varsity girls’ record to 10-14 overall and 7-5 in conference. The Lady Bulldogs open district play at home on Saturday at 1:00 pm versus William Chrisman.
