Bulldog Athletics and Activities Wrap-up

Kearney students earned major awards in wrestling and dance this week. Here’s this week’s Bulldog athletics and activities wrap-up:

Boys Wrestling

On Sunday, March 6, the Missouri Wrestling Association held its annual banquet in Columbia, MO where Seniors Daryn Langford and Eli Ashcorft were recognized as Academic All-State team members. To qualify for Academic All-State a student must be a state medalist and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Ashcroft also received a number of individual MWA awards. These awards are voted on by all coaches in the state of Missouri. He was named the Class 3 District 4 Wrestler of the Year, the Class 3 State Wrestler of the Year, and the NWCA/MWA Male Wrestler of the Year for the entire state of Missouri.

Congratulations to both of these young men on their accomplishments this season on and off the mat.

Golden Girls

The Kearney Golden Girls dance squad rocked it at the 2022 state competition, coming home with a championship trophy. The state championships were held Feb. 25-27 in St. Louis.

The Golden Girls earned two first-place trophies for jazz and pom and finished in first place overall. Additionally, Sophia Brown won the state championship for junior solos, competing against nearly 50 other solo dancers.

Their success at state follows the Golden Girls’ 10th place finish during their first-ever trip to the Dance Team Union Nationals competition in February.

Congratulations to Coach Samantha Anderson, Coach Rachel Cerra and all the squad members: Avery Aller, Jessa Baldwin, Halle Bell, Sophia Brown, Kya Curtis, Grace Daily, Madelyn Duncan, Chloe Ferris, Sophia Frank, Eden Irsik, Lilly Liberty, Madison Pennington, Kennedy Slaughter, Aubrey Taylor, Aerie Watkins, Carly Watkins, and Ava Yarc.
