August Primary Candidates Announced

Candidate filing for the August primary is now closed, and the Clay County Election board has released the list of candidates who are running for office. 

Voters will see more names on the ballot this August as this cycle will include new Commission seats outlined by the new Clay County Constitution. The Constitution, which was approved by voters in 2020, adds four seats to the County Commission: an additional Eastern and Western Commissioner and two At Large Commissioners.

The following candidates will be on the ballot for the second Eastern position:

  • Jay R. Johnson

  • Sherry Duffett

  • Lynn Spalding

  • Vern Windsor

The following candidates will be on the ballot for the second Western position:

  • Rodney Phillips

  • Sharon Spero

  • Scott Wagner

The following candidates will be on the ballot for the Eastern At Large position:

  • James “Jim” Shrimpton

  • Sandy Baldwin

  • Scott Hayes

  • JoAnn Lawson

  • Noel J. Shull

  • Steve Wolcott

The following candidates will be on the ballot for the Western At Large position:

  • Jason Withington

  • Josiah Bechthold

  • Stephanie Freeman

  • Kenneth Jamison

The following candidates will be on the ballot for the Presiding Commissioner position:

  • Jerry Nolte

  • Dan Troutz
