Bulldog Spring Sports Underway
/Spring sports are getting started, and the Bulldogs are out on the fields and courses competing to win. Here’s our KPGZ Bulldog sports recap:
Boys Golf
On Monday, March 29, the Varsity Boys Golf team played in the Klint Andrews Tournament at Fred Arbanas Golf Course in Lee's Summit. The Fred Arbanas course is a difficult golf course especially when it is 50 degrees with 25mph wind gusts. Canton Woods shot the low round of the day for the Bulldogs with a 90. Abram Stuart shot a 97, Brock Stout shot a 101, and Conner Smith shot a 108. This gave the Bulldogs a team score of 396.
The JV Golf team played in the Lee's Summit JV Tournament at Shamrock Hill Golf Course. The low round of the day was Drake Cole with a 101. Ethan Cox shot a 103, Carter Smith shot a 105, and Nick Turley shot a 107. This gave the Bulldogs a JV Team score of 416 which was good enough for 10th place as a team.
Boys Track and Field
On Friday, March 25, the Boys Track and Field team competed in the Ron Ives meet in Liberty which is considered one of the best track meets in the city. There were a total of 18 teams, 16 of them were Class 5. The Bulldogs were one of two Class 4 teams. In a very difficult field consisting of Liberty, Blue Springs, Independence, Lee's Summit, and Francis Howell from St. Louis, the boys finished in 2nd place.
Meet champions were, Luke Noland (110 Hurdles), and Logan Arellano (400m). There were also several top 3 performances:
Will Dolinar - 3rd place: 100m
KJ Smith - 3rd place in shot and disc
Theo Grace - 2nd place in Javelin
4x200: Will Dolinar, Brock Colhour, Joe Marshall, Luke Noland – 2nd place
4x400: Joe Marshall, Brock Colhour, Logan Arellano, Kyler Chappell – 3rd place
Baseball
The Bulldogs traveled to Fort Osage on Monday, March 28, and came home with a 15-3 win in 5 innings.
Briggs Terwilleger pitched 4-1/3 innings for the win
Will Kennedy went 4-4 with a double
Jack Helberg went 2-4 with a home run
AJ Bultmann had 3 RBIs
Briggs Terwilleger, Casey Rooney, and Kale Conway each had 2 RBIs
On Tuesday, March 29, the Bulldogs took a big conference win over Smithville 8-2.
Manny Linthacum set the tone on the mound going 5-2/3 innings and striking out 7
Chase Porter got the scoring started in the 3rd inning with a solo home run
Kale Conway stayed hot going 2-4 with 3 RBIs
Chase Porter went 2-2 with a home run and a double
Will Kennedy went 1-4 with a triple and 1 RBI
Casey Rooney went 1-3 with a double and 1 RBI
Carson Shear went 2-3 with 1 RBI
Carter Prather finished the game on the mound going 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout
The Bulldogs’ record is 4-5 overall and 1-0 in conference.
