Bulldogs Bring Spring Wins

Spring weather isn’t known for its consistency, but Bulldog athletes have been consistently bringing home wins this week. Here is this week’s KPGZ Bulldog sports recap:

Baseball

The Bulldogs came away with another big conference win on Monday, April 4. This time they shut out the Platte County Pirates 6-0. 

Manny Linthacum was sharp on the mound again going 5-2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts. Eli Helberg closed the door for 1-1/3 innings with 1 strikeout.

Will Kennedy kicked things offensively in the 4th with a leadoff double. The Bulldogs would hit three more doubles in the inning from Porter, Terwilleger, Helberg to score 5. 

Terwilleger added a solo home run in the 5th to finish off the scoring. 

The Bulldog’s record: 8-6 and 2-0 in conference. 

Girls Soccer

It was Bulldog vs Bulldog Thursday night as the Kearney Girls Soccer team hosted Grandview.

The JV set the tone for the Kearney Bulldogs by shutting out the Grandview JV team, 9-0. Bri Reynolds scored 2 goals with Taylor Klein, Serenity Sparks, Kylee Smith, Victoria Baca, Delaney Thurston, Alex Kinstler, and Kayla Rinehart each scoring 1. 

The Varsity girls earned their second win of the season with a score of 15-0. Macy Hughes scored 3 and earned the first hat trick of the season. Maddi Stevens Jillian Mueller, Mila Kane, and Emma Weightman scored 2 each. Gracie Bomar, Bella Donze, Shelby Jensen, Ella Olberding, and Morgan Miller helped with 1 a piece.

Boys Golf

On Tuesday March 29, the Varsity Boys Golf team played in the Winnetonka Invitational at Hodge Park. It was a good day for the Bulldogs as they finished 3rd as a team with a team score of 352. Canton Woods medaled with an 85 (5th Place), Conner Smith shot an 88, Abram Stuart shot an 89, Braxton Breedlove shot a 90 and Brock Stout shot a 93. 

On March 30, the Varsity team played in a 9-hole match at Adams Pointe vs Platte County and Grain Valley. The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 183. Drake Cole shot a 43, Braxton Breedlove shot a 45, Conner Smith shot a 47, and Canton Woods shot a 48. The Bulldogs beat Platte County in the match but fell to Grain Valley.

Boys Track and Field

The Boys Track and Field team competed on Friday, April 1, at the Staley Falcon Relays. The Bulldogs finished 5th place and had great individual performances and relay performances. 

First place Medals:

- 4x200M Relay:  Brock Colhour, Grant Noland, Joe Marshall, and Luke Noland with a time of 1:32.32.

- Shot Put: 3rd Place – Zach Grace (13.61m); 4th Place – K.J. Smith (13.60m); and 13thPlace – Trace Dunlap (12.17m).

- Discus: 1st Place – K.J. Smith (53.79m); 4th Place – Zach Grace (43.18m); and 5th Place – Theo Grace (41.43m).

Girls Track and Field

The Kearney girls track team travelled to the DAC on Friday, April 1, for the Falcon Relays.

The Bulldogs had a fantastic meet and won the Championship plaque by a half point over host Class 5 Staley High School. The teams battled all evening and had a few personal records as well as improvements in most events.

- High Jump:  3rd Place – Andra Schreiber (1.42m); 6th Place – Isabella Flores (1.37m); and 9th Place – Caitlyn Wood (1.32m).

- 1600:  2nd Place – Abby Elam (5:48.18); 4th Place – Heidi Adams (5:52.18); and 5th Place – Gracie Bomar (6:00.29).

-  Shot Put:  4th Place – Abbie Goodman (9.71m); 9th Place – Samantha Singleton (9.06m); and 10th – Alli Poage (9.01m).

-   Discus:  7th Place – Ellise Arellano (27.00m); 8th Place – Samantha Singleton (26.93m); and 9th Place – Alli Poage (26.57m).

-  4x200 Relay: 1st Place. Ryleigh Van Emmerik, Abby Stamper, Shelby Singleton and Jadyn Barnes with a time of 1:50.20.

-   4x800: 2nd Place. Leila Murphy, Abby Smith, Alex Kinstler and Jadyn Barnes with a time of 10:21.68.

-   Distance Medley:  2nd Place. Olivia Brock, Addy Davis, Abby Elam and Alex Kinstler with a time of 14:08.86.

-   4x400 Relay: 3rd Place. Shelby Singleton, Leila Murphy, Abby Elam and Jadyn Barnes with a time of 4:21.94.
