Kearney Ranks in Top 20 Safest Missouri Cities
/Mayor Randy Pogue announced on Wednesday, July 6, that the City of Kearney ranked in the Top 20 Safest Cities in Missouri, according to this year’s Safest Cities Report. This is the eighth year home security company SafeWise has released a Safest Cities Report.
Mayor Pogue attributes this honor to vigilant residents and law enforcement partners, but mostly to Kearney’s police department. Keeping Kearney’s police department fully funded and equipped is one of Pogue’s top priorities.
“Thank you for being vigilant and reporting any concerns or suspicious activity,” said Pogue. “Thanks to the Kearney Missouri Police Department for always working hard to serve and protect our wonderful city.”
Kearney fell two notches on the 2022 report from number 10 to number 12. Platte City moved up 11 places which knocked Kearney out of the Top Ten this year.
SafeWise conducts an annual State of Safety survey, and in the report it states that, “people in Missouri worried about their safety on a daily basis (46%) almost as much as most Americans (47%)—even with higher crime rates than most states.” This number increased over last year when SafeWise found that only 37% of Missourians had daily concerns about personal safety.
SafeWise also notes that the safest cities in Missouri have lower-than-average crime rates compared to the state, region, and country.
Here is the SafeWise’s Top 10 Safest Cities for 2021:
1. Cottleville
2. Higginsville
3. Glendale
4. Greenwood
5. Ballwin
6. Savannah
7. Battlefield
8. Rock Hill
9. Maryville
10. Platte City
SafeWise uses FBI crime statistics data to rank cities in each state and across the country. To add extra insight and depth to that assessment, they include demographic information and the results of their proprietary State of Safety research study.
