Deputies Arrest Suspect Moments After Crime
/Within minutes of it occurring, deputies found and arrested a suspect who showed a woman a gun and threatened to shoot her if she didn’t give him her purse.
The victim called 911 from a convenience store in Randolph, Mo., about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 11. She told deputies she had been outside the store when a black truck pulled up occupied by three people. A young man she didn’t recognize got out, demanded her purse and another bag, then showed her the gun in his waistband and told her he would shoot her if she didn’t give him her bags. A witness confirmed the victim’s story.
The man got back in the truck, which then circled the gas station. The occupants rifled through the victim’s bags, taking pictures of the contents. Then they returned her bags to her and left. The victim and witness gave deputies the description of the suspect and the truck. Deputies then reviewed surveillance video from a nearby business and saw the truck.
They began searching the area for the black GMC Sierra with a dangling temporary tag. One deputy located it at a nearby motel. He saw people who matched the description the victim and witness gave of the suspect and other occupants of the truck. Other deputies moved in and arrested them. The suspect initially gave deputies false identifying information. Once they figured out who he was, they learned he had a Kansas warrant for failure to appear on terroristic threats.
Carlos Caballero, 19, now also is charged in Clay County with unlawful use of a weapon and is being held on a $100,000 bond. If he is able to post bond, he is prohibited from being within 100 feet of any convenience store.
