Kearney Makes Changes to Legal Team

At the Board of Aldermen meeting on August 1, city leaders announced changes in the City’s legal team.

The Board of Alderman passed a resolution recognizing long-time City Attorney R. Brian Hall for his service to the city. Hall decided to retire from legal practice this year after a 45 year career as City Attorney. Hall also served one year as Kearney’s Municipal Judge. Hall received a copy of the resolution and a key to the city for his years of service.

With Hall’s retirement, the Board of Aldermen passed a resolution announcing that Joe Lauber of the Lauber Law Firm will replace Brian Hall as Kearney’s new City Attorney. Lauber established Lauber Municipal Law, LLC, in 2010 and practices in the areas of general municipal law, public facility/infrastructure construction and financing, economic development law, public works contracts, annexation, land use planning and zoning, and appellate law.

The City also passed a resolution that formally creates a new Prosecuting Attorney position to ‘assist the City Attorney’ by assuming municipal court duties. The resolution appoints Zach Thompson to the position. Thompson has been serving as prosecuting attorney since March, 2017. The resolution also appoints his brother, Matt, as Assistant Prosecutor, to act in his absence.
