Bulldog Sports Recap
/School is back in session and that means Bulldog athletes have started competing again. Here is your KPGZ Sports Recap:
Football
The Kearney Bulldogs come home with a win against the Platte County Pirates on Friday thanks to a first-possession, 7-yard, overtime touchdown run by Senior Zach Grace, giving Kearney a 21-14 tie-breaking lead. Kearney’s defense came back with a tackle for loss on Platte County’s first overtime snap from center.
On second down, Pirate quarterback, Dylan Zimmerman’s fade pass into the end zone was intercepted by Kearney senior defender, Landon Goepferich to secure the overtime win.
Softball
On Saturday, August 27, the Bulldogs won two out of three games. The girls played Oak Grove in the first game. Kate Landewee started the game and pitched 6 innings. She had a great showing and struck out 11. The Bulldogs were winning until the last inning. Oak Grove was able to walk away with the win with a score of 4-3. Macy Morrow went 2 for 3 and Alyssa Quick, Mackenzie Herndon, and Jadyn Barnes all went 1 for 3.
The second game on Saturday, the Bulldogs faced the Odessa Bulldogs. The girls pulled away with a win with a score of 6-4. Alyssa Quick and Sela Lowrance both pitched and secured the win. Brooke Paalhar led the team with three hits and Macy Morrow and Alyssa Quick both had two.
The last game was against the Lee's Summit Tigers. The Bulldogs walked away with another win by a score of 7-6. Jadyn Barnes went 3 for 4, Macy Morrow went 2 for 4, Mackenzie Herndon and Sela Lowrance went 1 for 3, and Brooke Paalhar went 1 for 2 with a walk.
Girls Golf
Both the Varsity and JV Girls Golf teams were in action on Monday, August 29. The Varsity team competed in the Pirate Invitational at Shiloh Springs Golf Course, and the JV team competed in the LSN JV Invitational at Fred Arbanas Golf Course. Results are listed below.

Volleyball
The Volleyball team opened up their regular season against Platte County on Monday, August 29. The C Team lost in 2 sets, but both were very competitive games. The JV team lost in 2 sets.
Varsity swept the Pirates in 3 sets. The girls came ready to play and never let up. The first set was 25-13, second set 25-17. In the third set the game was tight all the way through, the girls played most of the game from behind. The Bulldogs were down 22-18, then found themselves down 24-20 with Senior Moria Olberding heading back to serve. The girls fought and won the 3rd set 24-26.
Senior Alli Poage led in hitting finishing the night with 10 kills. Freshman Madison Browning had 8 and Senior Ella Wolters had 7; Kylie Walker had 17 digs, Junior Mallory Jury had 3 ace serves!
