Bulldog Sports Recap
/Fall sports are in full swing and the Bulldogs are working hard to bring in the wins. Here’s this week’s KPGZ Bulldog Sports recap.
Boys Soccer
The Boys Soccer squad traveled to Platte County Wednesday, September 21. The JV lost 2-0. They played well, just came up short. The varsity won 2-1 with both goals coming from Tucker Jones. He was assisted on one of the goals by Mac Dunn. The win moves the team record to 4-4.
Volleyball
The Volleyball team traveled to Blue Springs South on Tuesday, September 20. The C Team won in 3 sets. The C Team record is 7-4.
The JV team played a tough first set losing 24-26 and then lost the second set. Their record is 2-5 on the season and they will compete in the Oak Park tournament this Saturday.
The Varsity played well against a strong offensive Blue Springs South team but lost in 3 straight sets (20-25, 27-25, 15-25).
Girls Golf
On Monday, September 19, the Varsity Girls Golf team traveled to The Outlaw to take part in the Tom Stout Invitational put on by Oak Park High School. The girls placed 10th overall in a large field (team score of 417). Low score for Kearney was Senior Hailey Parker with a 95. Other individual scores:

The JV, also on Monday, took part in the Odessa Varsity Tournament at Shirkey Golf Course. The girls placed 8th with a team score of 509. Low score for Kearney was Junior Katie Parks with a 117. Other individual scores:

Amelia Byers - 136
Both the Varsity and JV traveled to Tiffany Greens Golf Course Wednesday, September 21, to take on Park Hill in a 9-hole match. The Varsity lost their match by a score of 172-196. Low score for Kearney was Senior Anna Tourney with a 45 (her lowest score on 9 holes this year). Other Varsity scores:

The JV lost their match by a score of 218-238. Low score for the JV were Freshman Riley Walker, Sophomore Brooklyn Cheek, and Junior Amelia Byers all shooting a 59. Both Malia Fairchild and Katie Parks shot a 61.
Girls Tennis
On Monday, September 19, the Bulldog Tennis team hosted a match vs Ruskin. The Bulldogs came out strong ending the night with wins: Varsity 9-0 and JV 7-0.
The evening was a hot one, but that did not stop the festivities as the team celebrated senior night. This season, the team grew to 50. Of those 50, 14 seniors were recognized: Alayna Dostal, Autumn Ash, Lillian Gaik, Abigail Stamper, Jaeden Hoegler, Maclaine Murray, Kendall Ernzen, Laci Powell, Ella Mack, Anna Jensen, Taylor Franklin, Kylie Wilcher, Emma Ellis, and Julia Holmes. These seniors took on leadership roles this season.
Softball
On Tuesday, September 20, the Varsity Softball team took on the Platte County Pirates. The Bulldogs came out strong and scored three runs in the first inning and two more runs in the second inning. The Pirates did not give up, however. They tied the game in the top of the third off of some timely hits. The Pirates then scored 1 more run to take the lead in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the fourth and scored 2 to take the lead 7-6. Kate Landewee came in the fifth inning and shut down the Pirates the next three innings. The Bulldogs won 7-6.

Sela Lowrance was on the mound for the first 4 innings and struck out one. Kate Landewee finished the game out. She allowed no hits and struck out three.
Boys Swim and Dive
The boys swim team traveled to Platte County on Tuesday, September 20, to compete against the Platte County Pirates and the Park Hill Trojans. While this was a small meet, the boys went in ready to race and threw down some amazing times. The boys left the pool with nine best times and three state consideration times. Individual highlights below:
200 Medley Relay (Austin, Zingerman, Steward, Bartlett) finished FIRST with a time of 1:50.78
Jake Zingerman: 6th in the 50 free, 3rd in 100 breaststroke (best time)
Tanner Mayfield: 8th place in the 200 freestyle, 7th in the 100 freestyle
Lane Austin: 2nd in the 50 free, 2nd in the 100 free (best time + state consideration)
Finn Simmons: 12th in the 50 free (best time), 9th in the 500 freestyle (best time)
Parker Bartlett: 5th place in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 500 freestyle
Parker Mendel: 7th in the 200 free (best time), 7th in the 500 freestyle (best time)
Isaac Clayton: 10th in the 50 free (best time)
Ethan Flanigan: 11th in the 50 free, 7th in 100 breast stroke
Seth Ballard: 5th in the 100 butterfly, 6th in the 500 freestyle (best time)
Whitaker Steward: 1st place in the 200 freestyle with a 1:49.79 (best time + state consideration time), 1st in the 100 backstroke (state consideration time)
200 Freestyle Relay (Clayton, McNellis, Simmons, Ballard) finished 5th
