Bulldog Sports Recap
/Fall sports are beginning wind down, but the Bulldogs are still competing hard. Here is your KPGZ Bulldog sports recap.
Volleyball
On Monday, October 2, the Volleyball team traveled to Belton. The C team and JV both won in 2 sets. Varsity had a tough match and lost in 3 straight sets. Caitlyn Wood had 3 blocks, 4 kills and hit .375. Mallory Jury had 10 digs. Kate Martens had 6 assists.
On Tuesday, October 3, the team traveled to Grandview for a conference game. The C team and JV won in 2 straight sets and Varsity won in 3 sets. Bella Ah-Mu and Kate Martens each had 3 ace serves on the night, Madison Browning had 18 kills and hit .405, Caitlyn Wood had 3 blocks, and Mallory Jury added 17 digs.
The Bulldogs will play their last home game of the season and will honor the seniors for Senior Night on October 10th. JV will play at 5:30 and Varsity will honor seniors at 6:20 with the Varsity game starting at 6:30.
Girls Golf
The JV and Varsity competed in the 2023 Suburban Conference (Blue Division) Tournament on Tuesday, October 3, at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville.
The Varsity finished 2nd as a team with a score of 414. Smithville won the Conference with a team score of 406. Four Bulldogs finished All-Conference (Top 10).

The JV team finished in 2nd place as a team behind Smithville as well. Four JV Bulldogs earned medals by finishing in the top 10 as well.

The Varsity will travel to Jefferson City Country Club for the Class 3 District 4 Golf Tournament on Friday, October 6.
Softball
On Tuesday, October 3, the Varsity softball team travelled to Smithville to take on the Warriors in a conference matchup. The Bulldogs came out hot and scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 2 in the third, 5 in the fourth, and 1 in the fifth. Great pitching and defense left the Warriors scoreless. The Bulldogs won 11-0 in 5 innings.
Highlights:
Macy Morrow went 2-4 with 1 RBI
Ryleigh Van Emmerik went 2-3 with 1 RBI
Brooke Paalhar went 3-4
Morgan Pennington went 1-3 with 2 RBIs
Alyssa Quick went 2-3 with 4 RBIs and 2 home runs!
Kennedi Casey went 1-2
Bri Reynolds went 2-3 with 2 RBIs
Alyssa Quick had a great night on the mound. She pitched all 5 innings, did not allow a hit, and struck out 10.
The Bulldogs are now 20-5 and 5-0 in conference play. The last conference game will be Friday, October 6, at home against Excelsior Springs. JV starts at 4:00pm and varsity will follow.
Girls Tennis
Girls Tennis closed out a busy week last week and are headed into another round of tough competitions this week.
On Thursday, September 28, the Bulldogs traveled to Grandview to compete in their last regular season match and last conference match of the season. The Bulldogs took the courts confidently and ended the night with a big win at 6-0. This makes the 2023 Girls Tennis Team Conference Champions!
On Friday, September 29, Kearney hosted the Class 2 District 8 Individuals Tournament. The Bulldogs put up quite a fight, but ran into tough competition with Bishop LeBlond, St. Pius, and Platte County. The Bulldogs did not advance anyone to the state level this year.
On Monday, October 2, the Bulldogs traveled to William Chrisman for the first match of Team Districts. Kearney previously played William Chrisman in the regular season losing 3-6, so the athletes were eager for a rematch. The athletes took advantage of this rematch and played some of the best matches of the season.
Kearney took the lead quick winning all three doubles: Eliza Lohman/Madelyn Stuart (8-3), Alexis Nevins/Charleigh Elliott (8-3), Hannah Wermelskirchen/Alexis Robertson (9-8 tiebreak(7-2)). Then Madelyn Stuart and Alexis Nevins dominated their singles matches: Stuart (6-0,6-3), Nevins (6-1,6-1) earning the win for Kearney at 5-0.
Boys Soccer
On Monday, October 2, the boys soccer team took on Ruskin at home in the third conference game of the season. The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, scoring 4 goals in the first 7 minutes. The game ended in a 10-0 mercy rule at half. This brings the team's record to 7-4 on the season, 3-0 in conference.
