Clinton County Deputy Saves Pet from Fire

Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy Child

A family pet has recovered after a Clinton County Deputy rescued it from a burning home on Friday, March 24.

Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy Child arrived at the scene and saw the family had made it out of the burning home, but the family’s dog had not.

Deputy Child entered the burning house, found the dog unconscious and drug him out onto the porch. He performed life-saving techniques on the dog until the Holt Fire Department had arrived and provided oxygen for the dog. The dog regained consciousness and was acting normally after that.

“While we do not require deputies to risk their life to save the life of an animal, what Deputy Child did was certainly appreciated by the family and it shows the community the extra mile that our deputies will go,” states a Clinton County Sheriff’s Office post. “Deputy Child is very humble and was not in favor of this post. He is clearly an asset to this agency and our community.”

Deputy Child also serves in the Sheriff's Office Chaplain Unit. Lathrop Fire Department and Lawson Fire Department also responded to the scene for assistance.
