Bulky Item Pick-up Begins Next Week

Bulky item pick-up in Kearney begins on Monday, March 13, and runs through Thursday, March 17. Items will be picked up by Republic Services.

Residents are asked to place bulky items for removal at their curbs by 7:00am on their trash day. Trucks will not return to neighborhoods if items are placed late and missed.

Bulk pick-ups are limited to 5 items per house. Items not accepted include tires, yard waste, hazardous waste like paint, flammable materials and fluorescent light bulbs, rocks, bricks or concrete, and construction materials exceeding 4 feet by 4 feet, roofing materials, and railroad ties.

Wood will be picked up 4-foot bundles and weighing less than 40 pounds. Refrigerators will also be picked up, but must have refrigerants removed.

Carpeting must be cut, rolled and tied. Rolls can be no longer than 4-feet and no heavier than 40 pounds. Two carpet/padding roles are equal to one item.

Other items being accepted this year include Furniture, washing machines and dryers, lawnmowers, which must be empty of any fuel or oil, barbeque grills WITHOUT propane tanks, mattresses and box springs.

Miscellaneous debris must be in bags that are no bigger than 39 gallons and weigh no more than 40 pounds, and two bags equal one item.

Residents with larger areas of items can rent a dumpster through Republic Services by calling 816-254- 1470.
