Kearney Police Catch Carjackers

Kearney Police detectives were able to arrest and charge two men in connection with an attempted carjacking on Friday, April 14, at Watson and Regency drives.

Kearney Police responded to the call at 10:25 pm and retrieved video from Nate Welterlen who witnessed the incident. The video shows two men wearing ski masks pounding on his car.

The incident began when the two men tried to break into another vehicle. Welterlen tried to intervene, and the men started to pound on his car.

The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office charged Bradon McLaughlin of Kearney and Jason Hale of Pleasant Valley with Acry-Vehicle Hijacking a class B felony and Acry -Property Damage 1st degree a class E felony. They remain in the Clay County Detention Center on $150,000 bond.

Capt. John Stewart was thankful for the public’s help. “The community had tips to catch these guys quickly,” Stewart told KPGZ News.
