The Kearney Science Olympiad team (pictured above) competed in the 2023 B division state competition at Missouri State University on Saturday, April 1. Congratulations to the following students for their achievements in their events:

Myka Sitton and Landon Morrill- 6th place in “Can’t Judge A Powder”

Camille Herndon, Luke Vanderstel, and Ezra Stuart – 4th place in “Experimental Design”

Charity Smith and Malachi Smith – 6th place in “Sounds of Music”

Luke Vanderstel and Landon Morrill – 5th place in “Write It/Do It”

Science & Engineering Fair

Last week, the 8th Grade Science Research class traveled down to Union Station to compete at the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. This year, the fair included 56 local schools and 196 projects in the junior division (grades 6-8) and 68 projects in the senior division (grades 9-12).

Julie Sykes placed 1st in the Junior Materials Science category. Logan Daugherty placed 1st in the Junior Plant Science category. For placing 1st in their respective categories, Julie and Logan were also awarded $100 each! Katie Shaw earned the Lakeside Nature Center award and $100. Mary Shaw was awarded the Society of Women’s Engineers award and $50 as well as the Society of Military Engineers award and $100.
