Man Killed on Tracks Near Excelsior Springs

A Lawson man was killed when he was struck by a train in rural Excelsior Springs on Sunday, May 21. 37-year-old Daniel Wainscott was struck near the railway crossing behind Walmart, at the South McCleary Road crossing, just outside of Excelsior Springs.

Excelsior Springs Police believe Wainscott was shopping at Walmart in Excelsior Springs and was walking on or along the train tracks at the time he was struck. Officers have also seen a dog with a red collar at the scene. They believed it belonged to Wainscott but they were unable to capture it.

Although Excelsior Springs Police were the first on the scene, The Missouri State Highway Patrol has taken the lead in the investigation. The Highway Patrol does not know the exact circumstances of the incident, they believe that Wainscott was sitting on the train tracks at the time he was struck.
