Suspect in Custody After Vehicle Theft

The Ray and Clay County Sheriff’s Offices worked together on Thursday, June 29, to apprehend the driver of a stolen vehicle. The driver may have also added other charges after ramming Ray County Sheriff’s vehicles during the pursuit.

The incident began, according to Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers, when a white pickup was stolen from the Casey’s General Store in Polo. A Ray County Deputy saw the truck and the female driver attempted to flea by driving into Clay County.

Near Lawson the white truck allegedly hit Ray County Sheriff’s vehicles at least three times. Clay County Deputies assisted by deploying stop sticks, which flattened the pickup’s tires. The truck eventually lost control, crashed through a fence and stopped at Glenn Hendren Drive and Nashua Road in Liberty.

The driver was arrested without further incident and transported to the hospital for injuries before she was taken to Clay County Detention Center for alleged assault on law enforcement. No other injuries occurred in this incident.
