Citizens Academy Applications Now Accepted
/Citizens can get a behind-the-scenes look into the daily operation of the Sheriff’s Office by enrolling in the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy. The program’s purpose is to increase rapport with the public through education and give participants a greater understanding of why we do what we do.
The Citizen’s Academy helps Deputies and residents to interact and exchange ideas about making the community safer. It is a nine-week, 30-hour program and meets on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. There are typically sessions in the spring and fall. The first class starts on Tuesday, September 5.
Course topics covered in the academy include the K-9 Unit, CSI, patrol tactics, 911 communications, crisis intervention, detention operations, use of force, traffic safety, and more.
To apply, participants must be at least 17 years of age and live or work in Clay County. Applicants will be screened for acceptability and are subject to a criminal records check.
Participants can apply online HERE or applications are also are available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office lobby, 12 S. Water St., Liberty, MO 64068.
Completion of this program does not certify a citizen as a Deputy Sheriff or a Reserve Deputy.
