Pothole Reporting Confusion in Kearney

Kearney has only had one good snow so far this season, but in the wake of the winter weather, potholes have already started to appear on roads. Residents took to local complaint groups on Facebook to voice their concerns about the potholes that have appeared around Kearney.

Potholes can sometimes take drivers by surprise causing them to swerve to try to miss them. Hitting them could result in flat tires or other damage. But you don’t have complain on social media or ignore them and hope the holes will go away. Part of the challenge is knowing which agency is responsible for repairing the road.

For streets located in Kearney city limits, drivers can call City Hall to report the location. The number to City Hall is 816-628-4142.

State Highways are the responsibility of the Missouri Department of Transportation. “92 and 33 are both MoDOT roads the city has no control over these roads,” Alderman David Lehman said on social media in response to a post. The MoDOT page to report a problem is Modot.org/Report-Road-Concern.

County roads may also need attention. Report road concerns in unincorporated Clay County here: Claycountymo.gov/277/Report-a-Concern.
