Lawson Woman Killed in Crash

Clay County Deputies responded to a vehicle crash around 8 am, on Friday, February 23. The incident happened just outside of Holt and took the life of the vehicle’s driver.

Deputies were called to the scene on NE 192nd St. near Outer Road W, southeast of Holt. When they arrived, they found the 2013 Toyota Camry off the road, overturned and on fire.

Investigators believe the incident was a one-vehicle crash and the driver was the only occupant. They are still trying to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and turn over.  

The driver was identified as 55-year-old Melanie D. Avery of Lawson, Mo. She died at the scene as a result of the crash.
