Fireworks Sales Likely To Boom For Local Vendors

Independence Day is less than two weeks away, and since many cities in the northland have decided not to have fireworks displays, local fireworks stands are likely to be busier this year.

Bree Switzer is excited to open up Bigger Value Fireworks in the Price Chopper parking lot. “The tent will be up and running in a few days - same place, same green and white tent, same great customer service - almost 20 years strong,” she stated on the Bigger Value Fireworks Facebook page.

While Switzer is awaiting the delivery of her tent, other fireworks stands are already up and open. Hale Fireworks LLC is currently open at 92 Highway and Nation Road, where they have been selling fireworks for the past twenty-five years.

Jim Smith, who owns the property, thinks the business will do better this year since the city isn’t hosting a display. “I just own the property, and the kids run the tent now, but I think business will be up because the 4th of July is on Saturday this year. There will probably be lot of people having private parties on Friday and Saturday night,” Smith said.

Although Smith thinks business will be up this year, he doesn’t have to worry about ordering extra fireworks in anticipation of the increase in sales. “Our supplier is just South of Liberty, so if we start to run out of certain items, it’s easy just to drive down and resupply.”

The Kearney Police Department reminds residents that fireworks may not be fired or discharged except on the individuals own property or with the permission of the property owners. Fireworks may only be discharged from June 28th to July 3rd, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. On July 4th fireworks may be discharged between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.

Fireworks vendors are allowed to be open from 9:00 A.M to midnight every day until July 5th , 2020.
