Mayor Randy Pogue announced today that he will be recommending the Board of Aldermen consider approval of a CARES Small Business Grant Program at their upcoming July 6th Board meeting.

The program would be administered by the Clay County Economic Development Council. Small businesses located in Kearney could apply for a grant up to $5,000 to reimburse business expenses related to COVID-19.

It will be proposed to dedicate $100,000 for the program with Federal CARES Act funds distributed by the Clay County Commission. The City has been working with the Kearney Area Development Council and the Clay County Economic Development Council to establish program guidelines.

Representatives from both organizations will brief the Board of Aldermen at their meeting on Monday, July 6th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Kearney City Hall with limited public seating, and may also be attended by Zoom.

If approved, businesses could start applying for grants on July 10th through July 24th.
