County Election Results - Voters Approve Medicaid Expansion
/Medicaid expansion is coming to Missouri after voters approved a constitutional amendment Tuesday, expanding the federal government’s health program for low-income citizens.
States were allowed to expand Medicaid coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2014, after passage of the Affordable Care Act four years earlier and subsequent legal challenges.
Missouri Amendment 2 will expand Medicaid coverage to all adults ages 19 to 65 with an income of 133% of the federal poverty level or less.
Jackson County voters overwhelmingly approved Amendment 2 with 41,233 votes for and 25,528 votes against, according to unofficial results.
It was the same story in Platte and Clay counties, where more than three of five voters approved the amendment, while nearly 55% of Cass County voters voted no.
Missouri voters will choose between Gov. Mike Parson and State Auditor Nicole Galloway in the gubernatorial race in November.
Parson, the incumbent, handily won the Republican nomination for governor on Tuesday night, receiving 75% of the vote. KPGZ News called the race for Parson shortly after 8 p.m.
Galloway had received 88% of the vote in the Democratic primary by 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, defeating the four other candidates on the ballot.
Sam Graves was the Republican winner for U.S. Representative in District 6 and he will face off against Democratic challenger Ramona Farris.
Looking at State races of interest, Josh Hurlbert became the Republican nominee for Missouri State Representative in District 12 with 83% of the vote. He will be facing Democrat Wade Hugh Kiefer in November.
In county elections, Bob Nance was the winner for Clay County Treasurer with 47% of the vote. He faced no Democratic opposition so he will continue his service as Clay County Treasurer.
Tracy Baldwin became the Republican nominee for Clay County Assessor and will be facing Bruce Cantwell, the only Democrat registered in the race.
Cathy Rinehart became the Democrat nominee for Western Commissioner in Clay County and she will face Lydia McEvoy, who is the Republican nominee.
Megan Thompson became the Republican nominee for Eastern Commissioner and she will be facing Democrat Dustin Bell in November.
