Mayor to Host Informational Ballot Question Meetings

Mayor Randy Pogue has announced two town hall informational meeting dates for the Kearney Ballot Question (use tax) before Election Day on November 2. After a brief presentation, Mayor Pogue will review a list of frequently asked questions, answer questions from residents, and discuss renderings and specific projects the question will support.

Voters will have an opportunity to provide funding for essential City services such as public safety and parks by approving the Kearney Ballot Question initiative. This funding would go to a city initiative to boost funding for police, pets, parks and pathways. A use tax of 3% would only be collected on goods purchased from out-of-state vendors who are currently not paying local sales tax.

If the Kearney Ballot Question is not approved some of the City’s current revenue is at risk. The City of Kearney currently receives the sales tax revenue when a resident purchases a car from out-of-state. If a use tax is not adopted by November 2022, that revenue will be lost, and will have a negative impact on the city’s budget and ability to serve its residents.

All residents are welcome to join in person, watch on the city’s YouTube channel, or join via Zoom. The town hall meetings take place at 7 pm at City Hall on Wednesday, October 20 and Thursday October 28.
