Kearney Rolls through Grandview 53 -21

The Bulldogs brought their A-game to Grandview. Behind a punishing defense and an unstoppable rushing offense, this was arguably Kearney’s most complete game of the season. Kearney was in full control – against a good football team – for 4 quarters of football.

Kearney jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on an Ian Acosta 21-yard touchdown run and a Briggs Terwilleger fumble recovery returned for touchdown.

Grandview answered with a Keenan Jones 3-yard touchdown run followed by his own 2-point conversion. Score: Kearney 14, Grandview 8.

Kearney wasted no time responding with their own Ian Acosta, 1-yard touchdown taking a 21-8 lead following Braxton Breedlove’s point-after kick.

Grandview’s Wiley Rank ran 3 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter and that would be the last Grandview score until a 97-yard, fourth-quarter, Keenan Jones kickoff return for touchdown.

Kearney’s defense controlled Grandview’s offense all evening. From the Briggs Terwilleger fumble recovery for touchdown, to Drake Cole and Joe Marshall interceptions, and Daryn Langford’s tackle for loss – this Kearney Bulldog defense kept Grandview on its heels.

The Kearney Bulldog offense put up video game numbers on the ground with KJ Smith’s 3 rushing touchdowns – completing his third 200-plus-yard rushing game this season. Ian Acosta had 5 carries for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns while Zach Grace had 2 carries for 13 yards and a touchdown. Kearney finished the game with 332 ground-pounding rushing yards averaging 8.7 yards per carry.

Kearney Quarterback, Casey Rooney was 9 of 14 on pass completions for 88 yards. Zach Grace led the way with five receptions for 63 yards as Rooney completed passes to Sophomores Randall Freeman and Gavin Warren. Logan Arellano and Hayden Douglas balanced out the passing attack with one reception each. Kearney finished the game with 420 yards of total offense.
